Samsonite is a brand that has been in business for over a hundred years and has established a valuable brand that differentiates from its competitors and delivers a strong brand experience. Samsonite is planning to expand their business with a new product or service by introducing a coffee experience to their customers.
The aim of this project therefore was to come up with holistic concepts of a coffee experience, inlcuding a core product or a service concept
and the essential touch point to reach the customer.

Throughout the project we followed the New Development process (Idea generation, idea screening, concept development and testing), whereas the scope of this project only covers the first phases of this process.

The whole process is supported by a design research using qualitative design research methods around the target customer of Samsonite, to gather insights, which helped us to identify opportunity areas for a new product.

OBJECTIVE

The aim of this project was to give an insight of two most remarkable products and their designers. What made these products so successful, what united them and what differentiated them.

The 20th century has undergone a tremendous political, social and intellectual development and with it a new term has grown to a ubiquitous expression we all know as “Design”.

Having made a major contribution to its spreading I would like to put two, or rather three personages into spotlight who are worthwhile to receive a special focus. One of them is German-born architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe who created exceptional furniture, which endured time and still draw fulsome praise today. Especially the Barcelona Chair enjoys great popularity among corporate foyers and is renowned for its timeless beauty.

Not less famous and just as revolutionary are the American designers Ray and Charles Eames who evolved with post-war America and have put a big stamp on the chapter of modern, functional and organic design with their pioneer work in furniture design. With the Eames Lounge Chair they created a design landmark, which is considered to be an icon of modern design.
